Committees
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE: Sammetria Goodson was appointed to Co-Chair. An additional co-chair is needed. Members of the Membership Committee will develop the message and methods to attract new and retain current members. The Membership Committee is also responsible for identifying the requests/needs of current and potential members and presenting them to the Executive Committee. A member selected by the Membership Committee shall serve as liaison with the Black Law Student Association for area law schools.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: Joyce Eubanks agreed to serve as chair of the Program Development Committee. Angelina Williams agreed to assist her. Eubanks will focus on educational programs for members, law students and high school students. Christine Livingston have agreed to be responsible for developing social and networking events for members. Social and Networking Events will be in the form of a series of workshops based upon the Little Black Book of Success. In addition, Williams shall be responsible for developing introductory communication with the various media outlets for the promotion of: (1) WLD’s activities; (2) WLD members for interviews on current legal issues; and/or (3) columns or articles written WLD member. A committee member is needed to serve as liaison to other affinity bar CLE committees for the purposes of identifying speaking opportunities for members.
FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE: A chair is needed for the fundraising committee. As chair of the Fundraising Committee, you, and other committee members, shall identify and/or develop fundraising opportunities for the WLD. You shall develop a solicitation letter for members and various business entities for fundraising campaigns. You shall select a committee member to serve as liaison with the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE: Members are needed for the Community Relations Committee. Lynda Henry has agreed to serve as chair of the Community Relations Committee. She and other committee members are responsible for the identification and/or development of three (3) community outreach programs. The committee shall contact community organizations (grassroots, neighborhood, etc) to assess the needs of the community and determine if the WLD can offer assistance in meeting those needs by offering presentations or a community forum. The committee shall select or elect a committee member to contact and/or communicate with other bar associations with respect to their community outreach programs and make a recommendation as to whether the WLD should coordinate with an organization on a particular project.
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE: Gemela McClendon and Adiah Ferron agreed to continue as co-chairs of the Scholarship Committee. McClendon, Ferron and other committee members, are responsible for the coordination of the scholarship program. They shall review the application and application process, develop a method of distribution and promotion of the scholarships, and select recipients. The committee shall select or elect a committee member to serve as liaison with the counselors or financial directors of area law schools. The scholarship applications are scheduled for distribution in December to allow more students to ample opportunity to submit a completed application. A member is needed to plan the luncheon
AWARDS NOMINATION PROJECT LEADER: As project leader you shall develop a general database to collect biographies and information of members and determine if a member satisfies the eligibility requirements for various nominations. You shall identify various legal awards and ascertain their deadlines. You shall develop a method to contact the member to determine if she wishes to be nominated and, if so, gather additional information for submission.
30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: Plans Continue for WLD's 30th Anniverary: A Brunch Planning Committee has been formed and is chaired by Michelle Lee. Committee members include Sammetria Goodson, Adiah Ferron, Stacey Graham, Lindette Hassan and two of WLD's Co-Founders, Judge Jacqueline Allen and Beverly Williams. The event, a "Jazz in June Brunch" will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Bala Golf Club Ballroom (See WLD Events).
Plans are also Underway for a culiminating 30th anniversary WLD event to be held in October, 2011.
STUDENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: Needs a Project Leader. Christine Livingston will serve, temporarily, as the coordinator. As project leader, you will receive resumes from students and try to place them with WLD members for experience and/or mentoring.
